Nothing says “all-American muscle” quite like the Dodge Charger. The engine’s roar alone is all you need to know about a Charger’s impact on muscle cars. Recently, Dodge decided to trade the powerful engine for electric muscle.

There is no question that Dodge is shaking up the automotive industry with their new Dodge Charger Lineup. The lineup includes the headliner Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pak, which it refers to as the world’s first electric muscle car. But, according to the automobile company, it doesn’t lack the muscle.

The Daytona Scat Pak is all-electric with 670 horsepower that can reach 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. Dodge says the car can reach a quarter mile in less than 12 seconds. It also comes with a range of 260 miles.

While the Daytona is at the top of the electric muscle car pyramid, Dodge is offering a “less-powerful” model as well. The Charger Daytona R/T is also electric but only has 496 horsepower and 317-mile range. All the vehicles in the new Charger lineup use the new EV-centric STLA Large platform. They also announced that all-wheel drive is offered across all models in the lineup.

Dodge brand chief executive officer Tim Kuniskis said, “The next generation of Dodge muscle has arrived.”

Gas Sticks Around

Not all of the new Charger models are electric. They will also offer the Dodge Charger SIXPACK H.O and SIXPACK S.O. A 3.0L Twin Turbo Hurricane High Output engine gives the H.O 550-horsepower. However, the SIXPACK S.O. is powered by a Standard Output engine that gives it slightly less horsepower of 420.

The gas-powered offerings produce better horsepower than the outgoing  5.7- and 6.4-liter HEMI engines. In addition, Kuniskis said the Charger Daytona Scat Pak delivers Charger Hellcat Redeye levels of performance.

Features and Design

The new Charger models are packed with the latest technology found in electric vehicles. At the center inside sits a 12.3-inch angled display. Customers also have the choice between a 10.25-inch (standard) cluster screen and a. larger 16-inch unit.

Steering the new electric muscle cars is a steering wheel that Dodge says is built for performance. The heated steering wheel has a flat top/bottom design with a PowerShot button that gives it a technical feel. This PowerShot button, when pressed, gives the car an additional 40 horsepower for 15 seconds.
