Tesla had a very busy day online. The company had almost everyone on the internet talking about the (second) debut of the Tesla Roadster.

“In 2008, Roadster had one job: prove that an electric car could be fast, sexy & worth wanting,” the company posted on X. “Today, Roadster presents a new moment in history – the best of the last human-driven cars.”

This was the first of several posts detailing the electric sports car, following a 30-minute live stream in which Elon Musk unveiled the vehicle. Tesla’s Roadster features rocket-like thrusters and a sleek, aerodynamic design.

In a following post, Tesla outlines the vehicles configurations. One thing that significantly stands out, is that it can “fly.” This is what Tesla posted regarding the electric sports car’s specs:

  • Performance: road ready, seats 2

Active aerodynamics & multi-mode suction system for next-level performance on & off the trac.

  • Thrust: race ready, seats 2

Multi-mode suction system paired w/ rear-mounted cold-gas thrusters that enable 0–60 in <1 second.

  • Rocket: air ready, seats 1

Multi-mode suction system plus perimeter-mounted cold-gas thrusters supporting forward & upward acceleration plus lateral rotational movement. So…yes, it can fly.

Of course, the demonstration did show case the Roadster’s aerial capabilities.

In the video you can see the forward, upward, and sideways cold thrusters in action that allow the Roadster to “fly.” Realistically, is it practical? In no way, shape, or form. However, it is extremely cool. Just look at this shot in mid air.

In addition to the kickflip, the Roadster takes its speed and thrusters to a ramp. Flipping upside down but landing back on its tires.

With the ability to go 0-60 mph in 0.81 seconds, the electric road rocket/sports car that is the Roadster has the need for speed. As Tesla puts it, it is “out of this world.”
