Samsung Commits to $100 Million Towards Advanced Reactors

Kairos Power and Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group signed an agreement under which Samsung C&T will invest up to $100 million in Kairos Power.

This funding includes direct cash and engineering services, meant to help build the Hermes 2 Demonstration Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, pending regulatory approvals. The goal is to roll out Kairos Power’s fluoride salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor technology to help meet growing global energy needs.

A Major Investment in Advanced Nuclear Reactors

Samsung C&T is officially joining Kairos Power’s engineering, procurement, and construction team. This builds on an August 18 agreement that also included Barnard Construction.

“Samsung C&T’s investment and partnership reinforce the disciplined delivery model at the core of our commercialization strategy,” Mike Laufer, CEO and co-founder of Kairos Power, said. “We look forward to working with the Samsung C&T team to strengthen the integrated capabilities needed to deliver high-quality advanced reactors to customers with greater cost and schedule certainty.”

For the Hermes 2 project, the companies are splitting the work based on what they do best. Kairos Power will handle the reactor technology and the engineering and construction of the nuclear island. Samsung C&T will focus on the power-generation systems and the rest of the plant. Kairos will manage the overall project to keep it on time and on budget.

Kairos Power broke ground in April 2026 on the Hermes 2 Demonstration Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which will supply 50 MW of clean electricity to the TVA grid, under a multi-plant development agreement with Google.
