Researchers have uncovered a vast, invisible ecosystem living in tree bark that helps clean the air of climate-warming and toxic gases.

The Dawes Arboretum was founded in 1929 and created a living museum with 50,000 trees by 1930.

The naval base includes over 2,200 acres of wetlands and the largest coastal salt marsh estuary left in Southern California.
