Installing a physical IBM quantum system directly on campus changes the game. Having the hardware on-site allows Swiss researchers and tech companies to run highly complex algorithms with much lower latency. Unlike classical computers, which process information in binary ones and zeros, quantum computers use quantum bits (qubits) to process massive amounts of information simultaneously and in superposition states. This makes them uniquely qualified to solve scientific problems that would take standard supercomputers thousands of years to crack.
