Boston Dynamics just opened a new training center for its Atlas robot inside the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America. This new facility is called the Robotics Metaplant Application Center, or RMAC. Earlier this year, Boston Dynamics showcased its Atlas humanoid at CES 2026.
RMAC puts Atlas directly on the factory floor to learn in a real setting. Right now, the robot is learning how to sort and arrange car parts so they are in the correct order for assembly.
Humanoid Robots Take on the Heavy Lifting
According to Boston Dynamics, by 2030, Atlas will begin putting those parts together. Over time, the robot will take on the heavy lifting and repetitive tasks that take a physical toll on workers.

Hyundai plans to produce 25,000 Atlas units at its Hyundai and Kia plants worldwide over the next few years. To keep up, they are building a new factory in the U.S. capable of producing 30,000 robots a year.

RMAC reinforces our shared ambition to create a future where robots amplify human potential by making work safer and more productive.”
Working on More than Car Parts
The current RMAC setup is only phase one. Next year, the training center will move into a new building on the Hyundai campus that is ten times bigger.
Next year, Boston Dynamics plans to examine how Atlas can help in other fields. It’s currently discussing with customers who already use their Spot and Stretch robots to scale data collection and continue training Atlas by 2027.
