Toyota signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Constellation, the largest producer of clean energy in the U.S.

The two companies are partnering to support new solar power generation, an agreement that brings Toyota closer to its environmental goals and adds more clean energy to the grid.

Under this deal, Toyota gets renewable energy certificates from the Milano Solar project, a solar farm that will produce about 204 megawatts of power. Constellation is buying a large portion of that, over 115 megawatts, which equals roughly 246,000 megawatt-hours of clean energy every single year.

When the project begins in September 2027, Constellation will retire those energy certificates on Toyota’s behalf through its Offsite Renewable solutions product.

In its North American 8th Environmental Action Plan, Toyota aims to match 100 percent of the electricity it uses with renewable energy. It plans to do this using a mix of purchase agreements, credits, and on-site solar panels.

“Companies are looking for practical ways to meet their sustainability goals while supporting the development of new clean energy resources,” said Dan Verbanac, senior vice president, Retail and Solutions, Constellation. “By connecting Toyota with a large-scale renewable project like Milano Solar, Constellation is helping deliver meaningful environmental benefits and bring additional clean energy to the grid.”

Toyota believes that the deal comes down to the company’s core values.

“Toyota works to embody our core value of Respect for the Planet through carbon neutrality programs, including power purchase agreements such as this,” said Tim Hilgeman, Toyota general manager of environmental sustainability. “With Constellation and Ferrovial, we appreciate the science-based approach to one of the most complex challenges of our time.”

Beyond Electricity

Building large solar farms requires significant effort, but the payoff goes beyond that.

“Milano Solar is a strong example of how large-scale renewable projects create lasting value beyond the power they generate,” said María José Esteruelas, Ferrovial Energy CEO. “We’re proud to deliver durable, long-term benefits to the communities and workforces that make these projects possible, while supporting growing demand for reliable energy infrastructure.”
