Formula 1 is a sport defined by massive amounts of data, split-second strategic decisions, and a deeply passionate global fanbase. Now, as the racing series heads to Austin for the United States Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari HP and IBM are teaming up to put all of that complexity directly into the hands of the fans.
The two companies just announced a major expansion to the official Scuderia Ferrari mobile app. Powered by IBM’s advanced artificial intelligence tools, the new features are designed to give the team’s estimated 400 million fans, known as the Tifosi, unprecedented, real-time access to the inner workings of a race weekend.

AI-Powered Race Summaries
One of the standout additions to the app is the expanded Race Summaries feature. Using AI agents built on the IBM Watsonx platform, the app can instantly digest massive amounts of complex telemetry data and distill strategic insights from Ferrari drivers and team principals.

Within minutes of a practice, qualifying, or race session ending, the AI translates all of that raw data into a compelling, easy-to-read narrative. Fans no longer have to wait for traditional sports media to publish a recap; the AI generates a comprehensive breakdown of the team’s performance almost immediately. Alongside the summaries, a new visual Race Timeline allows users to easily scroll through the crucial moments of any session, tracking everything from sudden weather changes and pit stops to Virtual Safety Car deployments.

Bringing The Pressure To The Fans
Beyond reading about the race, Ferrari wants fans to experience a fraction of the pressure their strategists feel on the pit wall. A new Pitstop Reaction Game challenges users to select the correct tire compound in the quickest possible time. Fans can track their scores on a global leaderboard or challenge their friends in predictor leagues and quizzes.

“At Scuderia Ferrari HP, we are constantly looking for new ways to bring our fans closer to the team and the action on track,” said Lorenzo Giorgetti, Chief Racing Revenue Officer at Scuderia Ferrari HP. “The Automated Race Timeline gives Tifosi a clearer view of how each session develops, while the Pitstop Reaction Game allows them to experience some of the speed and pressure behind a critical race decision. Together with IBM, we are transforming the technology and competitive spirit that define Scuderia Ferrari HP into more interactive experiences for our fans around the world.”
A Massive Engagement Boost
The partnership is already paying off. By utilizing IBM Bob and IBM Consulting Advantage, the development team has increased its productivity by 30%. More importantly, the fans are responding. Following an initial relaunch of the app, Ferrari saw a 35% increase in cumulative downloads and a 36% jump in average monthly active users over the first year.
By using cutting-edge AI to break down the highly technical “how” and “why” behind the racing action, IBM and Ferrari are setting a new standard for how sports teams interact with their digital communities.
