Waymo, the company deploying self-driving taxis in certain U.S. states, announced operations in “Sin City.”

“Vegas, Deal Us In! We’re welcoming riders today,” the company emphatically announced in a press statement on September 14.

According to Waymo, over 100,000 people have expressed interest after Waymo spent months studying local roads. Las Vegas joins Denver and San Diego as the first cities to have majority Ojai fleets, which use the 6th-generation Waymo Driver.

“Cruising down Las Vegas Boulevard in a Waymo will make anyone feel like a high roller,” said Jackie Hyun, Head of Marketing at Waymo. “Our Ojai vehicle offers a spacious cabin, large screens, and a load of customizations that help riders arrive safe and comfortable throughout our nearly 24-mile service area.”

You can call a ride from Boulder Junction to the Strip up to Sahara Avenue. The service also connects the edge of Spring Valley to Winchester. This can help you get a safe ride to a casino or just your neighborhood coffee shop.

Clean and Safe

“Las Vegas and its neighborhoods are evolving rapidly, and expanding smart, clean transit options is essential for our city’s future,” said Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley. “The public rollout of Waymo’s all-electric autonomous ride-hailing brings technology directly to our municipal streets, helping residents and patrons travel seamlessly between the cultural districts and neighborhood centers. By investing in cleaner, safer urban mobility, we ensure the City of Las Vegas remains an accessible, vibrant, and forward-looking community.”

Waymo will steadily expand access for riders in Clark County as it works toward opening the service to everyone. Waymo states that it has spent years preparing and validating its technology across town. According to the company, the results show that its driver is involved in 94% fewer crashes involving serious injury or worse than human drivers over the same distance.
