The tech world is growing fast, and AI needs a lot of electricity. While wind and solar power are great, the ongoing critique persists: the sun sets, and sometimes there is no wind.

Noon Energy and Sabanci Renewables announced a joint agreement to address energy demand. A major part of the deal involves using Noon’s ultra-long-duration energy storage (ultra-LDES) technology. The goal is to provide 100% clean, firm power for AI infrastructure, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This collaboration targets up to 1 gigawatt, or 100 gigawatt-hours, of capacity. They will combine Sabanci’s renewable energy portfolio with Noon Energy’s reversible electrofuels battery systems. These setups will run as Power Purchase Agreements or capacity offtake agreements. Sabanci Climate Ventures, which already invests in Noon Energy and is Sabanci’s sister company, helped make this happen.

The companies hope to start commercial deployment as early as 2027. Sabanci Renewables will handle project development insights and capital expertise, while Noon will focus on scaling manufacturing, providing technical input, and overseeing operations.

Chris Graves, Noon Energy CEO, said, “Partnering with an established and forward-thinking company like Sabanci Renewables marks a critical step in accelerating the path to commercialization for our ultra-LDES technology. In this cooperation, we will develop the commercial, technical, and operational frameworks to unlock a 100% reliable and renewable grid for cents per kWh using multi-day energy storage.”

Sabanci Renewables has a goal of building a 3-gigawatt renewable portfolio in the U.S. over the next five years. This joint effort will be a big part of hitting that mark, creating baseload renewable energy that customers and the grid can actually rely on.

As Murat Oguz Arcan, Chief Growth Officer at Sabanci Renewables and Managing Director of Sabanci Climate Ventures, stated, “It is essential to our view that support for the growth of AI through innovative power solutions should be provided if timely and sustainable growth is to be achieved.”

“Our intention,” he added, “is to contribute to the creation of the clean, reliable and scalable energy infrastructure that the AI economy will need by combining Noon Energy’s ultra long duration energy storage technology with Sabanci Renewables’ expertise in renewable energy.”
